Neurologic & orthopedic hospital of chicago ranked no. 1 in illinois, among top in nation for spine surgery

March 3, 2008

CHICAGO, IL, March 3, 2008 —The Neurologic and Orthopedic Hospital of Chicago (NOHC) has been ranked No. 1 in Illinois and is among the top five percent in the country for spine surgery according to the Tenth Annual HealthGrades Hospital Quality in America study.  The HealthGrades Research analyzed patient outcomes at all of the nation’s hospitals over the past three years.  The study also concluded that NOHC is:

  • A recipient of the HealthGrades Spine Surgery Excellence Award
  • The only hospital in Illinois to receive spine surgery excellence award
  • Five-star rated for spine surgery
  • Five-star rated for back and neck surgery two years in a row
  • Five-star rated for spinal fusion

The HealthGrades Study examines nearly 5,000 hospitals nationwide and identifies key trends in their quality of care.  HealthGrades researchers analyzed Medicare discharges from virtually every U.S. hospital between 2004 and 2006.

They compared actual performance to predicted performance for patient outcomes during that time period.

“We are honored with this award of excellence in spine surgery and are delighted to be recognized for the unprecedented patient care and customer service provided by our medical staff,” says Dr. Leonard Cerullo, Medical Director of NOHC.

The Neurologic & Orthopedic Hospital of Chicago is the country’s only freestanding acute care facility dedicated exclusively to neuroscience and orthopedic services.  During 2007, more than 2,000 neurosurgical and orthopedic surgeries were performed at NOHC.

NEUROLOGIC & ORTHOPEDIC HOSPITAL OF CHICAGO

The Neurologic & Orthopedic Hospital of Chicago is the country’s only freestanding acute care facility dedicated exclusively to neuroscience and orthopedic services.  During 2007, more than 2,000 neurosurgical and orthopedic surgeries were performed at NOHC.

The brain and spinal fusion surgeries at NOHC have been acknowledged by many of Chicago’s well-respected insurance companies as having the fewest complications.   A similar level of excellence is seen on the orthopedics side of the hospital.  The total joint program at NOHC boasts zero complications, perhaps the lowest complication rate of any hospital in the nation.

As today’s baby boomers continue to age yet want to stay active, NOHC continues to expand services adding all-new developments for hip and knee patients, including customizable implants for knee replacements and hip resurfacing for patients with hip pain who want to maintain an active lifestyle.

[...] Our only regret is we didn’t come to CINN for the previous surgeries. We can see why CINN is rated #1 Hospial in the Chicago. [...]

I am a 58 y/o female. In May of 1995 I had a Cervical Lamenectomy C3-6. Over the years I have had several problems,no neck pain but still unable to walk without a device. At this time I am experiencing leg and lower lower back and have been told that I now have a Herniated Disk between C6 & 7. While reading about your new Mesh like device for spinal surgery, I’m wondering would / could this work for me. I am tired of hurting and taking pain pills. I have also lost at least 70% of the normal feeling in my arm and hand and am having severe muscle spasms in my leg..Can you help me? PLEASE.. (THIS IS MORE OF A QUESTION THAN A COMMENT)

    Dear N.O.H. of Chicago,

I had C6/C7 Cervical fusion 15 years ago. I have strugled with pain ever since the surgery. I have a recent MRI that indicates 3 herniated discs, 2above and 1below the C6/C7 area. Does this sound like I would be a candidate for the Inclose Annular Repair Device Implant?

    Thank You,
    Douglas R. Harczak

I am a visitor in this Chicago for about six months. I am a Chinese lady. Now I feel strong pain on my waist and right leg. I know there are some extra bones inside. Now my body is twist. My waist and ass turn right now and look like a disability. This stuation lasts about 3 weeks now. I stay in the bed all the day. How could I do?
I don’t have insurance in USA, how much should I pay?
Do you have some exercise video on line that I could watch?

I am a 56-year-old Black female suffering from a number of conditions, all related to my back, hips and legs. I am also a type II diabetic with high blood pressure, both well controlled on diet and medications. I have suffered with sciatica off and on for nearly 30 years. I injured my left leg stepping up on the CTA bus two years ago and caused further nerve damage to my left leg that has not healed, even with 2-1/2 years of chiropractic treatments, only to have the chiropractor admit that there was nothing more she could do to heal my sciatica. In addition to all that I recently (within the last six months) discovered via x-ray that I have bone spurs lining my pelvis on both sides, as well as an MRI that revealed a bulging disc at L4-5. My question is, do you believe you can help me get rid of some of this pain. I am unable to walk without a cane, I cannot stand for 10 minutes, I am unable to walk for a half block. I am currently on extended leave of absence from my job and am afraid that I will never be able to go back to work. PLEASE HELP!!!

Got something to say?
