Former White Sox player Albert Belle undergoes successful hip resurfacing surgery

Chicago, March 13, 2007-Former White Sox and Cleveland Indians outfielder and hall-of-fame candidate Albert Belle today underwent a new, hip resurfacing procedure at the Neurologic & Orthopedic Hospital of Chicago. Belle suffers from osteoarthritis in his hip, a chronic condition that shortened his professional baseball career and has prevented him from continuing to participate in his passion for golf.
“Mr. Belle was an excellent candidate for this surgery and soon will be able to engage in the physical activities he enjoys,” says Mitchell Sheinkop, M.D., professor of Orthopedic Surgery and director of Joint Replacement Surgery at the Neurologic & Orthopedic Hospital of Chicago, and orthopedic surgeon conducting the procedure. Brain screening in breast cancer patients volunteers needed

Have you been diagnosed with Stage III or Stage IV breast cancer? Are you interested in being considered for a free image of your brain?
The brain is one site where breast cancer can spread. As many as 30% of patients with Stage III or Stage IV breast cancer may also develop brain cancer.
Gail L. Rosseau, M.D., Principal Investigator, and the Chicago Institute of Neurosurgery and Neuroresearch (CINN) Medical Group are conducting a screening and education study on brain cancer in breast cancer patients at NOHC. Booklet Offers Information on Prevention and Treatment for Back Pain
Chicago, March 5, 2007—Responding to a recent increase in back pain patients, the Chicago Institute of Neurosurgery & Neuroresearch has introduced a new back pain booklet available at the new Vernon Hills clinic. The booklet includes tips for reducing an individual’s risk of back pain and describes available treatment options.
Because of an increase in aging baby boomers, the number of people with osteoarthritis is on the rise. Current estimates of those living with chronic back pain range from 50 to 60 million people. Eighty percent of people over 30 will experience back problems at some point in their lives. In people younger than 45 years, back pain is the most common cause of limiting activities. It also is the second most common reason people visit a physician, right behind the common cold. Read more
Noted Chicago neurosurgeon to open clinic in Lake County in March

Noted Chicago neurosurgeon Leonard Cerullo, MD is opening a clinic for Lake and McHenry neurosurgery patients in Vernon Hills in March.
About 15 percent of patients from the Chicago Institute of Neurosurgery and Neuroresearch medical group in Chicago come from McHenry and Lake County , according to Cerullo. Currently, these patients drive more than an hour to see Cerullo and his team of neurosurgeons, physiatrists and neurologists.
“The distance (to Chicago ) can be an impediment for patients who just need a follow up or a consultation,” he said. Cerullo currently has a residence in Woodstock and some of his neurosurgeons live in the northern Chicago suburbs, so Cerullo has connections to the area and has seen how fast the area is growing.
